The best I have found is http://www.cellularchallenge.net . They clear your personal data (pictures, numbers, text messages) and you can print postage directly from their site and just drop it in the mail It’s easy and they accept our older phones as well and give them to a good cause and keep the material out of the landfill.

To each their own. Mags doesnt understand adventure racing, JeffD doesnt understand Through Hiking. Well, have either of you tried the thing you don't understand? People are going to have their differences. I don't do either, but some of my best friends do. My friend who is in Primal Quest this week, is in the best shape of anyone I know, and loves the combination of all the events, the navigation, and the adventure/difficulty of it. My friend who hiked 2648 miles over 5 months on the Pacific Crest Trail, he has absolute willpower. He can do anything he puts his mind to. He had a really difficult time hiking the PCT, but he made it, and it is a huge accomplishment that no one can take away from him.
He has a million stories from it and met amazing people all along the way.

It is lifechanging.

I somewhat agree, I feel when you race through nature you may miss enjoying the best part of it. The appeal to adventure racing for me is the lack of a fixed course in the wilderness compared to say Xterra triathlons. I still will always enjoy week-long backpacking trips in the mountains, but I think competing in my first adventure race will combine my love of the wilderness and my competitive spirit.

What I don't get is through-hiking where people try to hike with sole purpose of covering as much ground as they can in a day. They aren't in a race or in a competition, so what's the hurry?

I guess it comes down to the fact that nature can be experinced in many ways, from a relaxing hike, to bird watching, to battling against it in a race. Hopefully each experience we can take something from it that brings us closer nature.

Hope that made sense.

Personally, I don't quite get the point of "adventure racing". I have a problem with measuring "nature experiences" in the currency of time. I know that sounds a bit hipocritical, since I race bikes for a living - but for me, I use nature as a way to get away from the clock. Not to seek it.

As a civilization we are very short sighted, especially here in the west. Buddhism has a very unique perspective because of its strong belief in reincarnation. Buddhists see themselves as protectors of the planet for their children and for themselves because they will return in a future life and would like to have a place to return to!
The Dalai Lama has spoken on this many times and is one of the few spiritual leaders that speaks strongly on the topic of global warming.
